CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota, Crookston men's basketball team will host Crown College Nov. 28 to round out their non-conference slate at Lysaker Gymnasium before getting the conference season under way Dec. 1 at Bemidji State University. The Golden Eagles come into the game with a 3-0 mark while their counterparts from Crown College comes into Wednesday with a 1-2 mark on the season.
UMC is coming off a 55-48 win over Mayville State University last week on the road. Earlier in the season, the Golden Eagles picked up a win on the road versus Finlandia University and at home against Presentation College. UMC has been led on the season by junior college transfer
Brandon Burns (F, Baton Rouge, La.), who has led the Golden Eagles in scoring during each of the team's three games this season. Burns is currently averaging 16.7 points per game. Senior point guard
Almir Krdzalic (Sioux Falls, S.D.) is also averaging double-figure scoring on the season with 12.0 per game through three contests so far.
Justin Rake (Sr., G, Petal, Miss.) is also averaging double-figure scoring this season with 10.7 points per game.
The Golden Eagles come in averaging 72 points to their opponent's 63. They have shot 48.5 percent from the field but have struggled from beyond the arc as they are only hitting 20.6 percent.
Rake and
Abdou Niang (Sr., F, Dakar, Senegal) have both been forces on the boards this season. Rake is averaging 8.3 rebounds per game while Niang is averaging 10 boards per game. Niang set a school-record against Finlandia University with 22 rebounds. The Golden Eagles have out-rebounded their opponent's 42.3 to 31.0 so far this year.
Crown College comes into Wednesday with a 1-2 record after defeating Wartburg College and falling to offensive juggernaut Grinnell College and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Storm is paced by 7-1 center Anthony Di Loreto, who is averaging 21.0 points and 17.7 rebounds this season. Di Loreto is shooting 65.0 percent from the field so far this year. Crown has two other players averaging double-figure scoring in 6-0 junior guard Truman Shetler (15.7 points per game) and 6-1 senior guard Taylor Jones (10.7 points per game). Crown is shooting 34.0 percent from beyond the arc this season and 48.1 percent from the field. Jones has led the team from behind the three-point line shooting 8-of-23 for 34.8 percent. The Storm are being out-scored 82.7 to 75.7 this season. They have a rebounding edge over their opponent's this season 42 to 37.
