Golden Eagles Pick Up 55-48 Win Over Mayville State in Non-Conference Road Match-up

Box Score MAYVILLE, N.D.  –The University of Minnesota, Crookston men's basketball team jumped to 3-0 on the season with a 55-48 win over Mayville State University Tuesday night at Lewy Lee Field House in Mayville, N.D. Tuesday was an exhibition contest for the Comets.

The Golden Eagles were led for the third-straight game by junior college transfer forward Brandon Burns (Jr., Baton Rouge, La.). Burns had 14 points and six rebounds. Almir Krdzalic (Sr., G, Sioux Falls, S.D.), Ashton Harrell (Jr., G, Houston, Texas) and Justin Rake (Sr., G, Petal, Miss.) each added seven points. Rake led the Golden Eagles on the boards as they out-rebounded Mayville State 36-17 on the night. UMC shot 21-of-47 for the night including two three-pointers and were 11-of-15 from the charity stripe. Dominique Wright (So., G/F, Colorado Springs, Colo.) added six points on the game.

Mayville State was led by senior guard Austin Emerson, who scored 27 of the Comets' 48 points on the night. Emerson was 9-of-18 from the field and 6-of-11 from three-point land. Mayville State was 17-of-51 from the field for the game and 10-of-27 from behind the three-point line. Sam Hyman added 14 points while Steve Ivory, Jr., the team's leading scorer coming in, was held to four points. Matt Baudin tallied three on the game. Dexter Elliott paced Mayville State on the boards with six.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up non-conference action at home Nov. 28 as they host Crown College at 6 p.m., at Lysaker Gymnasium. UMC has started the last three seasons with a 3-0 mark in non-conference play. Last season the Golden Eagles had wins over Northland International University, College of St. Scholastica and Crown College.
