Golden Eagles Head to Mayville State for Non-Conference Contest Thursday

CROOKSTON, Minn.  – The University of Minnesota, Crookston women's basketball team will continue its non-conference schedule as they head to Mayville State University for a game Thursday at Lewy Lee Field House in Mayville, N.D. UMC will look to bounce back after a tough loss to Valley City State University Monday. Mayville State enters Thursday's game with a 6-2 overall mark. Thursday's game serves as an exhibition for the Comets who have been playing competitively since Oct. 19.

The Golden Eagles were led in their opening regular-season game against Valley City State by 2011 All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Second Team pick Brittani Wiese (Sr., G, Albertville, Minn.), who scored 15 points. Ashley Martell (So., G, Somerset, Wis.) connected on 4-of-9 three-pointers to add 14 points against the Vikings and freshman Katrina Moenkedick (Fr., F, Perham, Minn.) had eight points.

Mayville State has been led so far this season by 6-2 center Marcisa McMillan, who is averaging 15 points per game so far this season for the Comets. Four other players are averaging double-figure scoring for Mayville State. 5-5 junior guard Hailey Longtin is Mayville State's second-leading scorer averaging 14.25 points per game. Angela Tauer, Sabrina Rude and Liza Hoglo are all also averaging over 10 points per contest.
