Golden Eagle Men’s Basketball Team Looks to Build On Momentum from Sunday’s Victory with Home NSIC Contests this Weekend

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team looks to build on the momentum gained from their 56-53 victory at the University of Mary on Sunday as they return home for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games on Friday, January 13 against Winona State University (WSU) and on Saturday, January 14 against Upper Iowa University (UIU). Games tip-off at 8 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively at Lysaker Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles hold an overall record of 5-8 and NSIC record of 1-8. They are led by Jacolby Anderson (6-2, Sr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) who is averaging 16.8 points per game. Anderson led all scorers both games this past weekend scoring 29 against Northern State University and 27 against the University of Mary. Akeem Cubie (6-6, Sr, G/F, Minneapolis, Minn.) is averaging 16.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Golden Eagles vs. Winona State University              Friday, January 13            8 p.m.

The Warriors have an overall record of 13-2 and NSIC record of 8-1 after defeating Concordia University, St. Paul (70-66) and St. Cloud State University (87-77) at home this past weekend. WSU was ranked tenth in the latest National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) poll. The Warriors are led by Clayton Vette who is averaging 15.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Grant Johnson is averaging 15 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Jon Walburg is averaging 10.4 points per game while C.J. Erickson is averaging 10.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Golden Eagles vs. Upper Iowa University               Saturday, January 14            6 p.m.

The Peacocks have an overall record of 4-9 and NSIC record of 1-8 after a 74-68 overtime loss to St. Cloud State University and an 84-73 loss to Concordia University, St. Paul at home this past weekend. Tucker Wentzien leads UIU averaging 13.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Sam Elgin is averaging 11.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
