Box Score (Crookston, Minn.)- Alex Thomas drilled a three-point basket at the buzzer as Northern State University (NSU) defeated the University of Minnesota, Crookston 80-77 tonight in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men's Basketball game in Aberdeen, S.D.
The score was deadlocked 39-39 at the half with the Golden Eagles outshooting the Wolves 42.4% (14-33) to 38.5% (10-26). Neither team could hold a decisive lead in the second half. NSU led by as many as seven with 15:14 remaining while U of M, Crookston took a five point advantage at 6:35 to go. Rebounds were also tight with the Golden Eagles pulling down 33 and the Wolves picking up 35. The difference would come at the free throw line where NSU was 29-35 as opposed to the U of M, Crookston who was 14-20.
The Wolves improve to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the NSIC. They were led by Alex Thomas who scored 23 points (7-15).Collin Pryor scored 16 points (6-13) with six rebounds. Dustin Tetzlaff added 11 points (7-7 from the free throw line) while Jared Hannigan chipped in ten points (3-5).
The Golden Eagles fall to 4-8 overall and 0-8 in the NSIC. They were led by
Jacolby Anderson (6-2, Sr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) who scored a game high 29 points (12-17).
Akeem Cubie (6-6, Sr, G/F, Minneapolis, Minn.) added 17 points (6-15).
Broderick Schmidt (6-10, Jr, F, Marion, S.D.) (4-4) and
Keith Newberry, Jr. (6-7, So, F/C, Rochester Hills, Mich.) (4-11) each added ten points.
U of M, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Sunday, January 8 when they travel to the University of Mary. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
