(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team entertains the University of Mary and Northern State this Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4. Game times are slated for 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are looking to end a three game losing streak and get back on a playoff run to with eight games remaining in the season. Minnesota, Crookston- (8-10, 5-9 NSIC) Minnesota, Crookston returned to Lysaker Gymnasium on Saturday to take on NSIC rival MSU Moorhead. The Golden Eagles entered today's game with a conference record of 5-8, facing the Dragons who also come into the contest with a 5-8 record. The Dragons dominated the boards to take the NSIC victory 77-53. The Golden Eagles were led by
Brittani Wiese (5-7, Sr., G, Albertville, Minn.) who tallied a team-high 18 points. She was 6-11 from the field, 2-3 from long range and 4-4 from the free-throw line. Wiese dished two assists and led all players with three steals.
Lauren Kessler (6-1, Jr., C, Albertville, Minn.) followed Wiese in scoring with a total of nine points.
Carli Bunning (6-0, Jr., F, Boone, Iowa) fought hard to grab a total of six rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles.
U-Mary- (14-5, 11-4 NSIC) Linda Murray (F, 6-2, Jr., Fresno, CA) posted consecutive double doubles and averaged 20.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks as third-place University of Mary split two games. The junior forward opened the weekend with 23 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in a win over Bemidji State. Murray followed with 18 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and a block against Minnesota Duluth. She now has five double doubles this season… Shaunna Knife (F, 5-11, Jr., Bottineau, ND) averaged 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, two steals and two blocks over the weekend. She posted 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists , two blocks and two steals against BSU and followed with 10 points, five boards, two blocks and two steals against UMD.
Northern State- (12-9, 7-8)Freshman Sadie Stotesbery (C, 6-2, Fr. Sioux Falls, S.D./Sioux Falls Washington HS) had a solid weekend, playing 63 minutes for the Wolves, the most in a single weekend in her young career. As the Wolves were avenging an earlier loss this season to Minnesota-Duluth, Stotesbery nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, while blocking a shot for good measure. In the loss to Bemidji State, Stotesbery had a team high 13 points on 6-12 shooting while securing three rebounds and two steals. Mikayla Barondeau (F, 6-1, Sr. Frederick, S.D./Frederick-Leola HS) is 20 points shy of 1,000 in her career. She will be scoring 1,000 points despite missing 16 games her junior season due to a season ending knee injury. When she does reach 1,000, Barondeau and fellow senior Emily Becken will be the first Wolves teammates at 1,000 career points and playing at the same time since the careers of Jammie Coyle and Amanda Mikuska accomplished the feat from 1996-2000.
