Box Score (Crookston, Minn.)- Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) took a 30-27 lead at the half and outscored the University of Minnesota, Crookston 38-34 in the second half to defeat the Golden Eagles 68-61 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men's Basketball action tonight at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn.
Both teams shot incredibly well from the field with the Mustangs shooting 53.3% (24-45) and U of M, Crookston shooting 51% (26-51). SMSU held a 29-24 advantage on the boards and also shot 6-16 from beyond the three-point arc as opposed to the Golden Eagles who
shot 4-9.
The Mustangs improve to 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC. They were led by Trent Carlson who scored 17 points (6-9) including going 5-8 from three-point range. Nick Smith added 14 points (3-6) including going 8-9 from the free-throw line. He also added six rebounds which tied for a team and game high.
U of M, Crookston falls to 4-6 overall and 0-6 in the NSIC. They were led by
Akeem Cubie (6-6, Sr, G/F, Minneapolis, Minn.) who scored a game high 22 points (8-9) and also pulled down five rebounds.
Keith Newberry, Jr. (6-7, So, F/C, Rochester Hills, Mich.) added 16 points (8-16) and a team high 6 rebounds which also tied for a game high.
Jacolby Anderson (6-2, Sr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) added 13 points (6-12) while
Almir Krdzalic (5-11, Jr, G, Sioux Falls, S.D.) dished out a game high ten assists.
The Golden Eagles return to NSIC action on Wednesday, January 3 when they play host to Minnesota State University at Lysaker Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
