Golden Eagle Women Travel to St. Cloud and St. Paul this Friday and Saturday for Pivotal NSIC Games

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team hits the road this Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21 to play St. Cloud State and Concordia- St. Paul. Both of these games and basically every game for the rest of the season is a must with for the Golden Eagles if they hope to make the NSIC playoffs. Minnesota, Crookston is currently tied for the eighth and final spot in the playoffs with the Huskies of St. Cloud State. The Golden Bears are on the doorstep of post-season play with a 4-7 conference record. The Golden Eagles do battle with St. Cloud first on Friday, January 20 at 6 p.m. The team returns to the court to play Concordia- St. Paul on Saturday, January 21 at 4 p.m. Live stats and video of the games are available at www.goldeneaglesports.com.
 
Minnesota, Crookston- (8-7, 5-6 NSIC) The Golden Eagle went 1-1 in NSIC play over the weekend as they fell to Winona State 71-59 before defeating Upper Iowa 75-63. The Golden Eagles were led by Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, Jr., Albertville, Minn.) who averaged 17 points/game. She scored 20 points against Winona and added 14 points against Upper Iowa. She also led the team in assists with nine and steals with four. Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Sr. Rosemount Minn.) led UMC against UIU with a career night. Eul scored a career-high 24 points and added a career-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She was 6-12 from the field and a perfect 12-12 from the free-throw line. The Golden Eagles will travel to St. Cloud State and Concordia- St. Paul on Friday and Saturday. Game times are 6 p.m. on January 20 and 4 p.m. on January 21.
 
St. Cloud State- (8-7, 5-6 NSIC) Aaryn Booker (Sr., C, Minneapolis, Minn.) averaged 17 points and five rebounds in the Huskies road sweep of Bemidji State, 74-66 and Minnesota Duluth, 65-59. Booker shot 56 percent (14 of 25) from the field and 85.7 percent (6 of 7) from the free throw line. She scored a season high 20 points including 14 half points in the win at UMD. Against Bemidji State she had 14 points. Booker has scored in double figures in three straight games with an average of 14.6 points. She has six double figure scoring games this season. For the first time this season the Huskies swept an NSIC series on the road, defeating Bemidji State 74-66 on Friday and Minnesota Duluth 65-59 on Saturday. The Huskies are 5-2 on the road in the NSIC and return home to host Minnesota, Crookston and MSU Moorhead on Jan. 20-21. A pair of Huskies scored career highs on separate nights to lead the team. Jordi Gerking (Sr., G, Spirit Lake, Iowa) scored a season high 17 points in Friday's win over BSU. She tied her career high with four three pointers in the game. On Saturday Aaryn Booker (Sr., C, Minneapolis, Minn.) tallied a season high 20 points on eight of 15 shooting from the field. She scored 14 first half points as the Huskies took a 31-23 half time lead. Booker has scored in double figures in three straight games and averages 14.6 points per game over those three.
 
Concordia- St. Paul- (7-10, 4-7 NSIC) #20 Carissa Wolyniec (G, 5-11, So., Minneapolis, Minn.) lit Bemidji State on fire on Saturday night by knocking down a career-high seven three-pointers while scoring 23 points in a 93-69 road victory to snap a seven game losing streak. It was Wolyniec who helped the Golden Bears jump out to an insurmountable lead in the first half. Concordia made three-pointers on six of their first seven baskets with Wolyniec hitting five of them in the first eight-plus minutes. She made all six of her three-pointers in the first half as Concordia cruised into the break ahead 45-22. With such a large lead, her scoring efforts were not needed for much of the second half in the lopsided win. For the weekend, she averaged 15.5 points and 5.0 rebounds while adding 2.0 assists, a block and a steal. She made 9-17 (52.9%) from long distance on the weekend as well.
