Box Score (Crookston, Minn.) The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team hosted Upper Iowa University at Lysaker Gymnasium in a conference matchup. The Golden Eagles were coming off of loss last night aginst Winona State and entered today with a conference record of 4-6, facing the Upper Iowa Peacocks with a record of 1-9. The first half was a close battle as the Golden Eagle's were able to score sixteen points in the paint, while holding Upper Iowa to just four from under the net. At one point the Peacocks were up by as many as seven points, but the Golden Eagles were able to grab a one point lead going into the half at 34-33. The second half was much of the same story for the Golden Eagles. Both teams remained disciplined on each side of the ball. However, it would be the Golden Eagles to finally break free on offense, ending the game on a 15-3 run against the Peacocks defense for the 75-63 NSIC victory.
The Golden Eagles were led to victory today by
Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Sr. Rosemount Minn.) who had a career night. Eul scored a career-high 24 points and added a career-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She was 6-12 from the field and a perfect 12-12 from the free-throw line.
Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, Jr., Albertville, Minn.) followed Eul with 14 points. She added four assists and three steals. The Golden Eagles were also kept alive by
Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1 Jr. Rosemount Minn.) who was able to come down with ten rebounds for her team and allow the Golden Eagles offense do its job. She also added a season-high four blocked shots to lead all players. As a team the Golden Eagles shot 71% at the free throw line, sinking 22 of their 31 attempts. Minnesota, Crookston played a solid game down low as UMC tallied 30 points in the paint to UIU's eight.
Upper Iowa was led by Jeri Jacobson who tallied 18 points and eleven rebounds for the Peacocks. She was 5-20 from the field, 4-9 from long range and 4-4 from the charity stripe. Whitney Kieffer also had eleven rebounds and scored 10 points for Upper Iowa.
Minnesota, Crookston now sits at 8-7 on the season and 5-6 in conference play. Upper Iowa will fall to 1-14 overall and 1-10 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles will travel to St. Cloud State and Concordia- St. Paul next Friday and Saturday. Game times are 6 p.m. on January 20 and 4 p.m. on January 21.
