Box Score (Crookston, Minn.) The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team returned to Lysaker Gymnasium this evening to take on Upper Iowa University (UIU) in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) contest. Both teams came out ready to play which made the first half a cat and mouse game with a total of six lead changes. The big men for the Peacocks ended up overpowering and outscoring the Golden Eagles 13-3 to end the first half with a 31-21 lead.
U of M, Crookston came into the second half with a full head of steam and quickly reduced the deficit to six points. Despite the Golden Eagles putting up a fight in the second half, UIU held off the Golden Eagles to win the NSIC game 61-48. Upper Iowa University out-rebounded U of M, Crookston 38-25 which turned out to be the difference in the contest.
The Golden Eagles were led by
Akeem Cubie (6-6, Sr, G/F, Minneapolis, Minn.) who tallied 20 points (8-15) and four rebounds.
Jacolby Anderson (6-2, Sr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) followed up with 17 points (6-16).
The Peacocks were led by Tucker Wentzien who recorded a double-double with 19 points (9-13) and ten rebounds. Jake Hughes and Mike Lafrenz also put up good numbers with Hughes recording six points (2-5) and ten rebounds and Lafrenz putting up ten points (5-6) and a pair of rebounds.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston falls to 5-10 on the season and 1-10 in NSIC play. Upper Iowa University also has an overall record of 5-10 but advances to 2-9 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court for NSIC contests on Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21 when they go on the road to take on St. Cloud State University and Concordia University, St. Paul respectively. Friday's game begins at 8 p.m. while Saturday's begins at 6 p.m.
