(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) erupted for 23 runs on 27 hits on their way to a 23-3 non-conference victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston today at the Russ Matt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla.
The Bulldogs opened up a 5-1 lead after one inning and extended the lead to 12-3 after three innings. UMD added a run in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth before exploding for nine runs in the eighth inning. They were led by Colin Stinogel who went 5-5 with four runs batted in (RBI) and four runs scored. Anders Enberg went 4-5 with two RBI and four runs scored. Cody Aasen went 4-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Kellen McCoshen added three hits, three RBI and three runs scored. The Bulldogs threw six different pitchers with starter Blaine Barthel throwing two innings surrendering one run on three hits while striking out four to get the win.
U of M, Crookston was led by Ryan Kitzhaber (Fr, 1B, Withee, Wis.) who had two hits and three RBI.
UMD improves to 4-8 on the season while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-7. U of M, Crookston closes out action at the Russ Matt Invitational on Wednesday, March 16 when they play Wayne State University (Mich.). First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. (CST) in Auburndale, Fla.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston is an NCAA Division II Institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Golden Eagle Equestrian team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).
