(Wayne, Neb.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team traveled to #8 Wayne State (Neb.) this evening in the final regular season NSIC weekend of the season. The Golden Eagles ran with the Wildcats and took the lead 24-23 with 5:47 remaining in the first half. WSC went on a 21-9 run in the remaining five minutes to take a 44-33 halftime lead. In the second half, Wayne State used a 14-0 run and led by as many as 33 points to take the 92-64 victory.
The Golden Eagles were led by
Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who scored a team-high 18 points. She was 8-17 from the field and dished three assists.
Tori Joransen (F, 6-0, Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) tallied a career-high 14 points. She was 7-11 from the field in 25 minutes of play.
Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, So., Rosemount, Minn.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and knocked down seven points.
Wayne State was led by Mara Hjelle who scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Clare Duwelius followed Hjelle with 13 points. The Wildcats had 47 points in the paint, 27 points off turnovers, and scored 15 fast break points.
Minnesota, Crookston moves to 13-12 overall and 10-11 in the NSIC. Wayne State advances to 23-2 overall and 20-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles close out the regular season on Saturday when they play Augustana College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
