Second Half Rally by Golden Eagle Men Stuns Winona State 70-66

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team's five seniors played their final home game tonight in Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles made sure they went out with a bang as they rallied from a 33-26 halftime deficit to stun Winona State University (WSU) 70-66 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men's Basketball action in Crookston, Minn.

The Warriors jumped out to a seven point lead at the half and held a commanding 28-10 advantage on the boards. However, U of M, Crookston would not go away keeping the game close. With WSU clinging to a four point lead, Jason Servaty (Sr, G, St. Michael, Minn.) drilled a three-point shot at 1:24 to cut the lead to 64-63.Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) promptly stole the ball from a Warrior player and passed the ball to Almir Krdzalic (So, G, Sioux Falls, S.D.) who gave the Golden Eagles a two-point lead with a layup with just 47 seconds remaining. WSU promptly started to foul and U of M, Crookston made six free-throws down the stretch along with a key steal from Krdzalic to secure their third NSIC victory of the season.

The Warriors were led by Clayton Vette who scored a game-high 18 points (6-10 from the field). He also added nine rebounds. Anthony Tucker added 12 points (4-12 from the field) while Xavier Humphrey chipped in 11 points (4-7 from the field).

The Golden Eagles were led by Jacolby Anderson (Jr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) who scored 17 points (5-9 from the field). Dearden scored 16 points (5-11 from the field). Krdzalic chipped in 11 points (4-7 from the field).

WSU falls to 16-8 overall and 12-8 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston improves to 7-17 overall and 3-17 in the NSIC.

The Golden Eagles close out the 2010-2011 season on Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26 when they travel to Wayne State College and Augustana College for NSIC games. Games tip-off at 8 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston is an NCAA Division II Institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Golden Eagle Equestrian team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).
