(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team returns to Lysaker Gymnasium following the holiday break to host Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State University, Mankato on January 2 & 3. The Golden Eagles will host the Mustangs on Monday at 6 p.m. and return to the court on Tuesday to host the Mavericks at 6 p.m.
Minnesota, Crookston- (6-3, 3-2 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team went 1-1 in conference play on December 17 & 18. Minnesota, Crookston defeated Augustana College 73-70 on Saturday but fell to No. 9 Wayne State 66-37.
Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, Jr., Albertville Minn.) led UMC against Augustana with a game-high and tied a career-high with 24 points. She was 8-22 from the field, 2-4 from long range and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. She grabbed six rebounds, dished three assists and earned three steals in the contest. She averaged 32.5 minutes of play per game and 15.5 points per game. She led the team in steals and assists with five of each.
Southwest Minnesota State- (3-7, 2-4 NSIC) #20 Courtney McCarthy (F, 6-1, Sr., Sioux City, Iowa) scored a career-high 18 points to help Southwest Minnesota State to a 79-59 victory over Upper Iowa on December 17. McCarthy sparked the Mustangs connecting on 7 of 12 shots from the field and 4 of 6 from the free throw line adding a career-high five rebounds and three assists. #14 Bree Holleman (G, 5-8, So., Hancock, Minn.) averaged 11.5 points in SMSU's split over the weekend. Holleman led the Mustangs with 12 points against Winona State, connecting on 4 of 6 shooting, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range. The sophomore point guard added 11 points and four steals against Upper Iowa on Saturday. Holleman shot 55.6 percent from 3-point range on the weekend and added a career-high four steals against the Peacocks on Saturday.
Minnesota State- (7-3, 3-3 NSIC) Jennie Noreen led MSU in scoring over its two victories against Upper Iowa and Winona State. Noreen averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game as the Mavericks improved to .500 in NSIC action. She shot 66.7 percent from the field including 4-of-8 (50.0 3FG%) from long range. She also connected on 7-of-8 (87.5 FT%) from the charity stripe. Noreen recorded a game-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting while also adding four assists, three rebounds and four steals in the Mavericks win over Winona State. The Mavericks (7-3, 3-3 NSIC) went 2-0 last week with an 83-67 win on December 17 over Upper Iowa and a 66-55 victory on December 18 over Winona State...With the wins, MSU has now won three-consecutive games.
