Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball Opens NSIC Season Against Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team returns home on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 to open the NSIC season against Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. The Golden Eagles open up on Friday against the Bulldogs at 6 p.m. and return on Saturday to face the Beavers at 4 p.m.
 
Minnesota, Crookston- (3-1) The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team went 2-1 on the week in non-conference games. Minnesota, Crookston defeated Valley City State and Mount Mercy and fell to No. 9 ranked Michigan Tech. Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, Jr., Albertville, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles averaging 13.3 points/game. She dished a team-high 11 assists and earned a team-high seven steals in the three contests. Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Sr., Rosemount, Minn.) followed Wiese with 11.3 points/game, led the team averaging six rebounds/game and was named to the 2011 Radisson Roseville Classic All-Tournament team.
 
Minnesota Duluth- (3-1) Senior forward Shelly Stemper led the Bulldogs with 16 points, scoring seven of the team's first nine in a 74-54 win over Wisconsin-Superior. Forwards Katrina Newman and Maria Almquist each added 15 for UMD. Almquist's total marked a career-high in the freshman's young career.
 
Bemidji State- (2-2) Samantha Baldwin (G, Sr., 5-7, St. Thomas, N.D. / Grafton HS) averaged 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in 32.0 minutes per game as the Beavers went 0-2 at the Nova Southeastern Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 25-26. She shot 42.9 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and was 5-for-7 (71.4%) from the line, while adding six steals, five assists and one block shot. She had 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block shot in the 73-45 loss to host Nova Southeastern, while shooting 57.1 percent. BSU is 2-2 and now enter NSIC play Dec. 2-3 at MSU Moorhead and Minnesota, Crookston.
