Golden Eagle Volleyball Plays Three NSIC Matches this Week

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team travels to Minnesota State on Tuesday, November 1 to play the Mavericks in Mankato, Minn. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. The team returns home on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 to host #2 Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. It will be the final two home games for Golden Eagle Volleyball. Game times are set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The 2011 seniors will also be recognized at Saturday's game.
 
Minnesota, Crookston (11-14, 5-10 NSIC)- The Golden Eagles downed Upper Iowa Friday night 3-2 and kept the momentum going on Saturday by sweeping the Warriors 3-0 to go 2-0 in NSIC play this week. Junior Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, Jr., Rochester, Mich.) couldn't have picked a better weekend to have career-matches. The outside hitter led the Golden Eagles offense and tied a career-high with 19 kills against Upper Iowa. She also finished with a solid .350 (19K-5E-40Ta) attack percentage and knocked down six assisted blocks. Swann capped off a sensational weekend by leading the Golden Eagle offense for the second match in a row against Winona State. Swann finished with a match-high 14 kills and a .270 (14K-4E-37TA) attack percentage. She finished the weekend with 33 kills in eight sets for a 4.12 K/S average. She only had nine errors in 77 total attacks and finished the weekend with a .312 (33K-9E-77TA) attack percentage. Along with her exceptional offensive output, she finished third on the team with eight block assists (1.00 Blk/S). In recognition of her outstanding play, Swann was named KROX 1260-AM Athlete of the Week for the week of November 1.
 
Minnesota State (15-8, 8-7 NSIC)-  The No. 19 Minnesota State Mavericks only had one match this week which they dropped to No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State...The Mavericks were led at the net by junior outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty and junior middle blocker Jill Storlie who contributed 13 and 10 kills, respectively...Storlie killed 10 of her 19 attempts for a .421 hitting percentage...Senior setter Brittany Stamer paced the Mavericks with 23 assists and tied with Fogarty for most digs with seven...Stamer has recorded 1,007 assists this year which marks as her third consecutive year with more than 1,000.
 
Minnesota Duluth (25-0, 16-0 NSIC)- With 32 kills and a 5.33 kills per set average in two matches, Sophomore outside hitter Kate Lange led the Bulldogs to two more wins last weekend, and two sweeps. Lange had 16 kills, a career-high eight service aces, and 16 digs against Mary Saturday, just missing a triple-double. Eleena Iisakka had 82 assists in six sets gave Iisakka a 13.67 assists per set average, and the senior setter added 11 digs and two service aces to help boost UMD past Northern State Friday. Julie Rainey had 18 and 14 digs in two matches, Rainey's 5.33 digs per set led the Bulldogs defense, and provided a spark from the back row. Rainey did not allow a service error in two matches of serve-receive.
 
Bemidji State (6-17, 3-13 NSIC)- Bethany Thompson (Jr., OH, Owatonna, Minn.) had 31 kills on the weekend as BSU picked up a split with U-Mary and Northern State. Thompson had 19 kills and hit .543 in BSU's 3-1 victory over University of Mary Friday Thompson added eight digs on the night as BSU picked up their second-consecutive win after having lost 10 straight prior to their win over St. Cloud State. Saturday, Thompson had 13 kills and hit .136 and added eight digs as BSU lost 3-0 to Northern State Saturday. Elissa Christensen (Fr., Lib., Montevideo, Minn.) had 29 digs in two games over the weekend as BSU picked up a split with U-Mary and Northern State. Christensen has embraced her new role of libero over the last few weeks and it showed this weekend. Christensen had 16 digs in Friday's 3-1 victory over U-Mary.
