Sarah Morgan is entering her fifth season as head volleyball coach for the University of Minnesota Crookston.
In her first season with Minnesota Crookston, Morgan led the Golden Eagles to a 7-21 mark in the nation's best NCAA Division II volleyball conference. Minnesota Crookston battled injuries but was able to capture NSIC wins over MSU Moorhead, Minot State, and Bemidji State. The Golden Eagles were guided by an All-NSIC Second Team performance by senior Kassi Green. In addition, the Golden Eagles had great success in the classroom as they posted a 3.86 GPA as a team and had nine players earn NSIC All-Academic honors. In addition, Kaycie Hagen and Callie Schapekahm were both named NSIC Butch Raymond Scholarship recipients for the Minnesota Crookston volleyball program.
In her second season at the helm of Minnesota Crookston, the Golden Eagles finished 4-24, but won their opening match of the season 3-1 over Wisconsin-Parkside. The win in the first match of the season was the first time the Golden Eagles started out 1-0 since 2015, when they defeated Chestnut Hill College.
During her third season leading the charge, the Golden Eagles went 4-24 despite being in several matches on the 2019 season. Minnesota Crookston lost two matches by a 3-2 tally and five matches 3-1. Minnesota Crookston started the season 1-0 for the second-consecutive season with a 3-2 win over Wisconsin-Parkside. The Golden Eagles continued their success in the classroom with 11 NSIC All-Academic picks. Minnesota Crookston had six student-athletes earn membership on the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence. In addition, the Golden Eagles earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019 slate. They had one of the highest GPA's in Division II with a 3.68 for the 2019-20 academic year.
Her fourth season was cut short due to COVID-19. The fall season was canceled due to COVID-19. UMN Crookston played in one official spring match against UMary and also played in spring scrimmages. The UMN Crookston volleyball team earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic award during the season and had six student-athletes earn NSIC All-Academic team honors.
Morgan spent the previous four seasons at North Dakota State working under Kari Thompson. Her emphasis as an assistant for the Bison was on recruiting in Minnesota and Wisconsin, assisting in all areas of the program with an emphasis on defense and passing. In addition, she oversaw the academic progress of the volleyball student-athletes.
At NDSU, Morgan was a part of one of the nation's biggest improvements in the win column as they earned nine more victories than the previous season in 2014. Last season, Morgan helped NDSU to an 11-5 conference mark. She was instrumental in helping libero Mikaela Purnell to Summit League Defensive Player of the Year honors. In addition, under Morgan's leadership, libero Emily Milligan was second in the Summit League in 2014 with 530 total digs. In total, Morgan helped coach nine Bison student-athletes to All-Summit League honors during her four seasons.
Prior to her arrival at NDSU, Morgan spent three seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater of Green Bay. While at UWGB, she had the opportunity to work under her college head coach Debbie Kirch, now the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics at Northern Kentucky University. Morgan helped train AVCA All-Region and Honorable Mention All-America libero Brittany Groth, who was a two-time All-Horizon league performer and UWGB's all-time digs leader. Groth ranked third nationally in digs per set and the Phoenix were sixth in team digs in 2012.
As a player for the Phoenix, Morgan was a defensive specialist on Green Bay's 2003 Horizon League Championship squad. She set the school record for career digs for the Phoenix with 1,519 from 2003 and 2006 and finished third on the single-season chart with 518 digs as a junior.
Morgan spent the 2007 season on Kirch's staff at UWGB as a student assistant and was an assistant coach for a pair of regional championship teams at De Pere High School in De Pere, Wis., in 2008 and 2009. She also coached for the Fox Cities Elite Volleyball Club.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Green Bay with a degree in human biology in December 2007. Morgan was a standout in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2006. She is originally from Stacy, Minn., and resides in Crookston, Minn.. She married Kyle Morgan is the summer of 2020. She gave birth to a son, Lucas, in 2021.
