2025-26(Freshman): In his first season with the Golden Eagles Benson had 25 appearances, he scored 2 goals and had 6 assists with a total of 8 points. He had two appearances in the central regional tournament, and had one assist. 


Prior to UMN Crookston: Benson played his past two seasons as a defenseman at Crookston High School. In 2024-2025, Benson had 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points in 27 games. Benson finished 9th in scoring for the Pirates and third most among defensemen on the team.
