2017-18 (Junior): Smith continued to dominate the NSIC on the defensive side of the ball in his junior year. He had an NCAA Division II high of 109 blocks (3.9 per game) and was second in the NSIC in steals with 46. His strong performance earned him NSIC Defensive Player of the Year Honors. His 109 blocks was second across all NCAA divisions only behind Ajdin Penava of Marshall. Smith reached his career high in blocks with 9 coming against Northern State. He also averaged 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
