Bryan Beamish is in his fourth season as an assistant coach for Minnesota Crookston and his third as the program’s lead assistant.
Beamish's primary responsibilities are recruiting throughout the Midwest, scouting game film of opponents and helping coach the big men for the Golden Eagles. He also already helped coach post player Gable Smith to a school-record for blocks and has helped him improve on the offensive side of the ball where he averaged 7.4 points and 5.5 rebounds as a redshirt sophomore during the 2016-17 campaign.
In his first season as an assistant coach, Beamish made an instant impact helping the Golden Eagles to a 7-20 mark, their most wins since the 2000-01 season.
In year two during the 2015-16 season, Beamish helped the Golden Eagles in their first year of their rebuilding process as the staff’s first full recruiting class arrived on campus. Beamish, along with Head Coach Dan Weisse, put an emphasis on recruiting and building a team of not just talent, but high character people who achieve on an off the floor.
In his third season on staff, the Golden Eagles began to turn the corner as they saw continued progress. Minnesota Crookston more than doubled their win total from the previous season with eight, finishing with four conference wins. The U of M Crookston fell just short of the NSIC/Sanford Health quarterfinals after losing a heartbreaker at the buzzer in the first round to Upper Iowa. The season was highlighted by the stand-out performance of freshman Harrison Cleary, who was named NSIC Freshman of the Year, the first player in school history to earn that accolade and the first person since the 2006-07 season to earn a conference specialty award. Cleary also earned All-NSIC Second Team honors, becoming the first player since the 2003-04 season to earn all-conference recognition. In addition, Cleary would earn a pair of national awards as he was named to the Division II Bulletin All-Freshman Team and was selected as Hero Sports Division II Newcomer of the Year.
Prior to arriving at Minnesota Crookston, Beamish spent one season as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball program at the University of Miami (Fla) under Jim Larranaga.
As a graduate assistant for the Hurricanes, Beamish's primary responsibilities were breaking down opponent's game film, assisting during practice and helping run Miami's basketball camps. During Beamish's one season with the Hurricanes he helped lead the team to a 17-15 mark.
Before making the trip south to Miami, Beamish was an assistant coach for two seasons at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla. as a member of Head Coach Lance Randall's staff. Before making the move to
Florida, Beamish was an assistant coach for one season at his alma mater, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he helped the Pointers to a successful 26-4 record and a Sweet 16 appearance at the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
As a player, the Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., native had a prolific four-year career for the Pointers. During his time in Stevens Point, he earned First Team All-Conference honors twice and served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons. Beamish started every game during three of his four years with the Pointers. He helped lead the team to two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Regular-Season and Tournament Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
