Steve LeGrand is an assistant coach for the Golden Eagles working with tight ends and running backs. LeGrand was the assistant football coach for the offensive line and tight ends at Valley City State University prior to his appointment at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
Before arriving at Valley City State University, LeGrand taught physical education in the Valley City public school system. He has over four decades of experience as a head or assistant football coach including stints with NSIC rivals University of Mary, Northern State and St. Cloud State. LeGrand’s coaching honors include being named the 1996 North Dakota College Athletic Conference Football Coach of the Year, a Fergus Falls Community College Hall of Fame Inductee (1995), Minnesota Section 6B Football Coach of the Year, Minnesota Community College Football Coach of the Year, and Minnesota District 22 Football Coach of the Year in 1980 and 1981.
LeGrand began his education at Fergus Falls Community College. He went on to double-majored in physical education and social studies at the University of North Dakota-Ellendale. LeGrand received his master’s degree in physical education from St. Cloud State University. He and his wife Terri have five children.
