Richie Wessman enters his second season as an assistant football coach in 2013. Wessman is primarily responsible for coaching the team's quarterbacks and wide receivers. In addition, Wessman serves as the team's recruiting coordinator, making him UMC's point person for all football recruiting efforts.

Wessman came to the University of Minnesota, Crookston from the Tennessee Titans in the National Football League, where he spent five seasons with the organization as an offensive quality control assistant and an administrative assistant. As a quality control assistant, Wessman's primary duties included flim work and assisting with the offensive line and working in the running game and pass protection.

Prior to coaching with the Tennessee Titans, Wessman served as a graduate assistant at Clemson University and the University of Mississippi. Prior to that, Wessman served as an offensive assistant for his alma mater, the University of Southern California. He coached on the Trojan's 2004 National Championship team that finished 13-0. That team also had quarterback Matt Leinart, who won the Heisman Trophy that season.

Prior to his coaching career, Wessman served as a back-up quarterback at USC where he once backed up future NFL quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart and played in front of NFL quarterback Matt Cassel. Palmer and Leinart were both Heisman Trophy winners.

In addition, Wessman has had the good fortune of coaching with or playing under coaches such as; Paul Hackett, Hue Jackson, Pete Carroll, Norm Chow, Steve Sarkisian, Lane Kiffin and Jeff Fisher.
