Alec DeMaria is in his second year helping out the Golden Eagles as an assistant coach. DeMaria is working with the Minnesota Crookston pitchers.
In his first year with the Golden Eagles, DeMaria helped Minnesota Crookston to a 4.21 ERA in a shortened 13-game season due to Covid-19. The Golden Eagle pitching staff had 101 strikeouts to just 45 walks on the season. Minnesota Crookston's pitchers held their opponents to a .245 batting average. The Golden Eagles finished the 2020 season with a 1.36 WHIP. DeMaria also helped Jayden Grover become the program's strikeout leader and helped Grover to a record 14 strikeouts in a game.Â
This is his first collegiate coaching job after competing for four seasons at NSIC rival University of Mary. DeMaria's best season came as a senior as he posted a 3.60 ERA in 15 innings of relief with 16 strikeouts and 10 walks. Opponents hit just .250 off DeMaria during his senior season. He also had a strong freshman season, going 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts.
DeMaria, a native of Fresno, Calif., earned his degree from the University of Mary in 2019. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree.
