Prior to UMN Crookston: Nelson is a two-time letterwinner in football, basketball, and baseball at Minot H.S...He earned Academic All-WDA Conference in football, basketball, and baseball.

Personal: He is the son of Brent and Brook Nelson...Nelson plans to major in sports management...His uncle Corey Nelson played baseball for one season at Minot State University.
