University of Minnesota Crookston Athletics

Duluth, Minn. -- Top-25 ranked Minnesota Duluth swept Minnesota Crookston in NSIC volleyball action on Saturday afternoon inside Romano Gymnasium (13-25, 21-25, 12-25).

The Golden Eagles fall to 3-11 (1-5 NSIC).

Set One

In set one, the Dogs would take an early 4-1 lead, but an Adrienne Venditto (So., DS, Bovey, Minn.) service ace would make it 4-3.

Emma Malek (Sr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) and Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would get the Golden Eagles within two on a pair of occasions early in the set.

UMD would pull away and win set one

Set Two

The Golden Eagles would try and answer in the middle set and they would respond nicely.

Brooklyn Gysbers (Fr., OH, White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Carsten would help the Golden Eagles take a 7-4 lead.

The Bulldogs would tie the set at eight, but Lexi Scharold (Jr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) would collect a kill to regain the lead.

UMD would lead 13-10, but five in a row, capped off by a Carsten kill, would get the Golden Eagles back up by a pair.

Gysbers would regain the three point advantage with a kill.

UMD would make more plays down the stretch to win by four.

Set Three

The third set would be controlled by the Bulldogs, who would win the final set and the match in straight sets.

Individual Stats

Carsten, Scharold and Gysbers each finished with five kills in the match, while Malek and Carizma Muth (Sr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) added four each.

Ellery Ehresmann (So., S, Albany, Minn.) and Brook Orazem (So., S, Onamia, Minn.) finished with 11 digs each.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action Tuesday night when they host Bemidji State at 6 PM.
