CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team earned their third shutout of the season as they tied Southwest Minnesota State University 0-0 Friday, September 18 in the NSIC home debut at Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field.
The Golden Eagles were led in net by Payton King (So., GK, Fairfield, Calif.), who made her first start of the season and played the first 45 minutes. King took part in her second combined clean sheet of the season, earning one save. Phoenix DeBrusk (So., GK, Thunder Bay, Ontario) had a clean sheet in the first 45 minutes with no saves.
Minnesota Crookston has allowed just five goals in six games for an 0.83 goals against average. The Golden Eagles and Mustangs each had seven shots Friday, but Minnesota Crookston was able to put the most on frame. The Golden Eagles notched five shots on goal compared to just one for Southwest Minnesota State.
The Golden Eagles were guided off the bench by Autumn Rabe (Sr., MF/F, Kewaskum, Wis.) with two shots on goal. Marsia Green (Sr., MF/F, Waconia, Minn.), Maeva Lucas (So., MF, Delano, Minn.), and Marasia Warren (Fr., F, Waconia, Minn.) each notched shots on goal.
The Mustangs looked to four shots, with one on frame from Jada Backes.
Madelyn Cory had a clean sheet in net for the Mustangs with five saves over 90 minutes.
Jillian Muelberger (Jr., F, Shawnee, Kan.) had an opportunity in the 11th minute, but the shot went just wide.
Southwest Minnesota State's lone shot on goal came in the 28th minute from Backes, but was put away by King. Sophia Wilson had one of the best chances of the game but it went off the top of the crossbar in the 30th minute.
Rabe gave the Golden Eagles a good chance in the 31st minute, but Cory stopped the shot.
The Golden Eagles had shots on goal late in the first half from Green, and Lucas but Cory put away both opportunities for the Mustangs.
Rabe generated another chance at goal for Minnesota Crookston in the 60th minute, but Cory shut down the chance for Southwest Minnesota State.
The Golden Eagles last chance at a goal came in the 80th minute from Warren, but was shut down again to keep the final tally at 0-0.
Minnesota Crookston remains at home to host University of Sioux Falls Sunday, September 20 at 1 p.m.
