Moorhead, Minn. -- It was a tale of two games for Minnesota Crookston softball on Wednesday afternoon at MSU Moorhead, scoring just two runs in a game one loss, but scoring 11 runs in two innings late in game two to beat MSUM 15-11 in the second game, earning the split in extra innings.
Minnesota Crookston snapped a seven game losing streak to MSU Moorhead and has not played a seven inning game in four straight games.
Minnesota Crookston moves to 14-33 (8-14 NSIC).
Game One
The Golden Eagles would strike for a run on a Hannah Trzinski (So., 1B/P, Stevens Point, Wis.) RBI single, scoring Chayse Doering (So., OF, Shakopee, Minn.), who collected her sixth triple of the season.
MSUM would answer right back and then some in the second, scoring six runs, chasing Charlotte Dombrowski (Sr., P, Valparaiso, Ind.) and taking a 6-1 lead.
Emily Kalina (Fr., OF, Rice Lake, Wis.) would score on a Dragons error, but that would be the last scoring the Golden Eagles would see, falling 10-2 in six innings.
The Golden Eagles finished with four hits and left four on base.
Dombrowski fell to 6-8 on the season, going just an inning and a third.
Game Two
If there was a category for 'Game of the Year' at the Regal's Choice Awards last night, game two between the Golden Eagles and Dragons might've taken the cake.
MSU Moorhead would score a run in the second and another pair in the third, jumping on the Golden Eagles early.
Minnesota Crookston would score a run on an RBI groundout by Sophie Juntunen (Sr., 1B, St. Michael, Minn.), scoring Megan Surgenor (Fr., P/OF, Andover, Minn.) to cut the lead to 3-1. Doering would later come around to score on a Dragon error.
MSUM would regain a three run lead in the fourth.
In the fifth, the Golden Eagles would get two runs again, scoring two on an RBI double by Rayna French (Jr., C, La Salle, Manitoba).
The Dragons would score some insurance runs in the fifth, as they would head into the seventh inning with a four run lead.
The Golden Eagles would start to claw their way back. Valerie VanZant (Fr., IF, Salina, Kan.) would start the inning off with a hit and she would score on a triple by Madisen Yandle (So., SS, Lakeville, Minn.). Yandle would come around to score on another run scoring hit from French.
The Golden Eagles would tie the game on a massive double from Juntunen with two outs, scoring Surgenor to send the game to the bottom of the inning.
The Golden Eagles would pitch a squeaky clean bottom of the seventh and the floodgates would open in the eighth.
Minnesota Crookston would score six runs, capped off by an Emilee Haggadone (Sr., C, Lincoln, Neb.) two-run home run, her first of the season.
MSUM would score three runs in the bottom of the eighth, but it wouldn't be enough in the 15-11 loss.
Minnesota Crookston had 15 hits in the game. Yandle and French each were 3-4 in the game and combined for five runs scored. Juntunen finished with four RBI, three of which came in the late innings. The top five in the Golden Eagle lineup combined for 10 runs scored.
Dombrowski earned both decisions in the game, this time picking up a win, moving to 7-8 on the season.
