Senior Madison Carsten Eclipses 1,000 Career Digs in Loss at Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Senior Madison Carsten (Sr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) eclipsed 1,000 digs in her outstanding career on Saturday afternoon, finishing with six in a three set loss to Sioux Falls (16-25, 18-25, 14-25).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 3-17 (1-12 NSIC).

Set One

It would be a good start for the Golden Eagles, who would take a 3-1 lead after a Lexi Scharold (Jr., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) kill.

USF would take a 6-4 lead, but Carsten would finish off a kill to cut the lead to 6-5.

Trailing 8-6, Minnesota Crookston would score three in a row, capped off by a Hannah Nesdahl (Fr., DS, Sioux Falls, S.D.) kill.

Trailing by two again at 12-10, the maroon and gold would score three more in a row, using a pair of kills from Scharold and a duo block from Scharold and Carsten.

From that point, the Cougars would go on a run and take control of the set and win set one by nine.

Set Two

USF would start better in set one and take a 5-1 lead, but another 3-0 run by the Golden Eagles, capped off by a Bella Peters (Fr., OH, Altona, Manitoba) would make it 5-4.

The Cougars would extend their lead to 13-7, but Carizma Muth (Sr., OH, Randolph, Wis.) would collect back-to-back kills and cut the lead to 13-9.

Minnesota Crookston would get within one at 14-13 following another Scharold kill and would take a 16-15 lead after Carsten would finish off a kill.

USF would go on a large run and end up winning the set by seven.

Set Three

Set three would see another quick start for the opponent as USF would lead 9-2, but another 3-0 run by the Golden Eagles would get them back in the set at 9-5.

The quick start would be more than enough for USF, as they would win the final set and the match.

Individual Stats

Scharold led the way with six kills on 11 total attacks, while Carsten, Peters and Emma Malek (Sr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) each added five kills.

Nesdahl led the way with seven digs, while Carsten added the six she needed for the 1,000 dig plateau.
