Hooksett, N.H. – Looking for their first 4-0 start in over a decade, Minnesota Crookston would close out their fantastic East Coast trip on the road at Southern New Hampshire.
Minnesota Crookston moved to 4-0, continuing their best start since 2014, with a convincing sweep over Southern New Hampshire, who made the NCAA tournament in 2022 and 2023. Two of the four wins for the Golden Eagles this weekend were over teams who have made the tournament in the last four seasons.
Set One
SNHU would come out early and jump out to a 12-8 lead, but three straight kills from
Madison Carsten (Jr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would get the Golden Eagles back in the set and tie things up.
Minnesota Crookston would eventually take a 17-15 lead on a massive duo block from
Carizma Muth (R-So., OH, Randolph, Wis.) and
Lexi Scharold (So., MH, Alexandria, Kent.).
The Golden Eagles would extend their lead to 20-16 following a
Kailee Waasdorp (Jr., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) service ace. SNHU would once again get back within one, but Carsten and
Emma Malek (Jr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) would collect kills and give the Golden Eagles some more cushion at 22-19.
Abigail Ernster (Fr., OH, La Crescent, Minn.) would end the set with a kill.
Set Two
Minnesota Crookston would start much better in the second set and would get out to a 5-2 lead, following a Carsten service ace.
The Golden Eagles would take a stranglehold on the set and stretch their lead to 18-10, midway through the set.
The Golden Eagles would win the set by 10.
Set Three
Another fast start would come the way of the maroon and gold, as they would lead by three on a pair of occasions.
The Golden Eagles would continue to control the set and force a timeout, following another Carsten kill.
The Penmen would try and fight their way back in the set, but the Golden Eagles would win the final set, 25-21.
Individual Stats
Carsten continued her case for the NSIC Player of the Week, finishing with 19 kills on 40 total attacks. Carsten also finished with 14 digs, her third double-double in four matches. Muth added nine kills and five digs.
Dana Melby (R-Jr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) and
Ellery Ehresmann (Fr., S, Albany, Minn.) combined for 33 total assists.
Waasdorp finished with 13 digs in the match, putting her at 999 for her career.
Milestone Reached
Carsten finished the match with 19 kills, giving her 500 for her career.
What's Next
Minnesota Crookston will carry their undefeated record into Mankato next weekend, as they head to the Maverick Invite and take on old NSIC foe, Upper Iowa, for a 8 A.M., first serve, from the Taylor Center.
