CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston fell 23-3 to eighth-ranked Minnesota State University Friday, April 18 at the Minnesota Crookston Baseball Field.
The Golden Eagles drop to 18-20 (15-13 NSIC) with Friday's series-opening loss. The Mavericks improved to 33-4 (25-3 NSIC) with the victory. The Minnesota State have claimed the last two victories in the series. The squads are 2-2 in their last four games.
Kyle Odenbach (Jr., LHP, Thompson, N.D.) falls to 1-6 after allowing six earned runs, on six hits in 1.1 innings. Aaron Norland (R-Fr., RHP, Fosston, Minn.) pitched three innings in his collegiate debut, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Eli Denisen (R-So., LHP, Winona, Minn.) pitched a scoreless 0.2 innings, while Sean Felker (Fr., RHP, Lake Park, Minn.) allowed two runs in an inning.
The win went to Sam George, who improved to 5-0 giving up just one earned run on seven hits. He struck out eight, and walked four.
The Mavericks were guided by Aidan Byrne, who was 4-of-6 with two RBI, and three runs scored. Lincoln Berry went 2-of-6, with four RBI, and four runs scored. Louis Magers was 2-of-4, with four RBI, and two runs scored.
The Golden Eagles looked to Aaron Wensloff (So., IF/OF, Roseau, Minn.), who went 1-of-3, with two RBI. Brock Larsen (R-Jr., C/1B, Blaine, Minn.) was 1-of-1, with an RBI, and a run scored. Josh Dykhoff (Jr., RHP/DH, Wadena, Minn.) went 1-of-3, while Dylan Debilzen (Fr., OF, Parkers Prairie, Minn.) finished 1-of-3, with a run scored.
Jackson Fliflet (R-So., C/UT, Wahpeton, N.D.) had a pinch-hit single, while Isaac Telle (R-So., C, East Grand Forks, Minn.) made his collegiate debut.
A moment for the Mavericks were a seven-run second frame guided by a Magers double down the line, scoring Ike Mezzenga, and Matthew Fleischhacker. In addition, they scored eight in the fifth paced by a Magers two-run home run, and a Brandon Vicko home run. Berry hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth.
Minnesota Crookston was led by a Larsen single to plate Debilzen in the bottom of the first, and an Aaron Wensloff single up the middle, scoring Kobe Senn (Sr., IF, Fargo, N.D.), and Larsen.
The Golden Eagles will conclude the weekend with a two-game series with the Mavericks Saturday, April 19 at 12 and 2 p.m.
