AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The University of Minnesota Crookston fell 13-3 to Northwood University in their opening game of the 2025 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Fla. The Timberwolves scored 13 runs, on 11 hits, while the Golden Eagles were limited to three runs, on six hits.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 5-6 (3-1 NSIC) with Thursday's loss. Northwood improved to 5-8, snapping a three-game losing streak. Minnesota Crookston dropped to 3-1 all-time with the Timberwolves. They had previously won games over Northwood in 2022, 2018, and 2012.
Isaac Wensloff (Jr., RHP, Roseau, Minn.) made his first start of 2025, losing the game after allowing three earned runs on seven hits in five innings. Isaac Wensloff struck out two, and had zero walks. Jaxson Bennett (R-So., RHP, Saginaw, Minn.) allowed three runs in 0.1 innings. Kaylor Chamberlain (Fr., RHP, Mankato, Minn.) gave up two runs in 0.2 innings. Sean Felker (Fr., RHP, Audubon, Minn.) allowed two unearned runs in 0.1 innings. Joey Connelly (Jr., LHP, Eden Prairie, Minn.) tossed a scoreless 0.2 innings, while Aaron Bennett (R-So., RHP, Saginaw, Minn.) allowed one earned run in 0.1 innings.
The win for Northwood went to Trevor Crawford, who allowed just one run in six innings. Crawford struck out seven, and had one walk.
Minnesota Crookston continued to be led by lead-off hitter Dylan Debilzen (Fr., OF, Parkers Prairie, Minn.), who has been outstanding in his debut season. Debilzen went 2-of-4, with a run scored. Debilzen is hitting .447 in 10 starts, with eight runs scored, and six RBI. Brock Larsen (R-Jr., C/1B, Blaine, Minn.) went 1-of-2, with two RBI, and a run scored. Josh Dykhoff (Jr., DH, Wadena, Minn.) was 1-of-3, with an RBI, while Connor Bushbaum (R-Jr., OF, Saginaw, Minn.) hit 1-of-4, with a run scored.
The Timberwolves put runners on the corners with one out after a Caden Duryea single, following Myles Beale's leadoff double. Northwood went ahead 2-0 with an Anthony Manganello double, scoring Duryea, and Beale. The Timberwolves widened the gap to 3-0 when Getz singled in Manganello. Wensloff got Logan Voth to fly out to get out of the frame down 3-0.
Northwood pushed their advantage to 4-0 in the fifth with a Duryea sacrifice fly to plate Beale.
Minnesota Crookston got a run back using a Dykhoff sacrifice fly, plating Debilzen to cut the deficit to 4-1.
The Timberwolves added to their lead in the sixth when Voth triple to score Manganello. Beale continued his big game with a double, driving in Ben Narr, and Voth to widen the gap to 7-1. A Duryea single to left center scored Beale, and Brendan Hammer to push the advantage to 9-1.
Minnesota Crookston trimmed the deficit to 9-3 with a Larsen two-run shot over the fence in right field, scoring himself, and Bushbaum.
The Timberwolves pushed their lead to 10-3 when Drew Charters scored on a passed ball. Northwood extended the lead to 11-3 when Hammer reached on a fielding error, allowing Getz to cross the plate.
Northwood added two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Charters drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, scoring Beale. Matthew Meyer crossed on a passed ball to make the final tally of 13-3.
The Golden Eagles continue their Sunshine State excursion Friday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m., versus Rockhurst University in Davenport, Fla.
