Minnesota Duluth Controls Fourth Quarter in Win over Golden Eagles

Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota Duluth controlled the fourth quarter, outscoring the maroon and gold by nine, helping the Bulldogs defeat the Golden Eagles by 17, 77-60.

The loss for the Golden Eagles drops them to 9-17 (7-14 NSIC).

The game would be a game of runs and that would start early. UMD would jump out to a fast 9-2 start, but eight straight points by the Golden Eagles, highlighted by a pair of three-point makes from Nicole Hernandez (R-Sr., C, Oak Creek, Wis.) and Emma Miller (Jr., G, Albertville, Minn.) would give the Golden Eagles a brief one point lead.

UMD would take a six point lead heading into the second quarter.

UMD would take a six point lead, midway through the second, but Miller and Willow Thiel (Fr., F, Perham, Minn.) would tie the game with long range makes on two straight possessions.

From the point, it would be all Bulldogs, who would go on an 11-0 run towards the end of the half, but Riley Jenkins (R-Sr., G, Galesburg, Ill.) would make a tough bucket in the paint, as the Bulldogs would lead by nine after the first 20 minutes.

Midway through the third quarter, the Golden Eagles would go on a mini 5-0 run, cutting the deficit to just three, following buckets from Miller and Jenkins.

The Bulldogs would lead by eight heading into the final frame.

The final frame would be all Bulldogs, who would outscore the home team by nine, pulling away for the 17 point triumph.

Miller, one of the nation's best scorers, would finish with 26 points. Miller is now just eight points away from breaking the NSIC single season scoring conference record, previously set by Brooke Olson. Jenkins and Thiel added 13 and 11, respectively.

Minnesota Crookston shot 38 percent from long range and 37 percent from the field.
