Duluth, Minn. – It was another fast start for an opponent against Minnesota Crookston as Minnesota Duluth used that fast start to stay undefeated against the Golden Eagles in Duluth with a 99-86 in Wednesday night men's basketball action.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-6 on the season.
The Bulldogs would score the game's first seven points for a quick 7-0 lead, but
Alijah Washington (R-Jr., G, San Jose, Calif.) would get the Golden Eagles on the board with a bucket.
UMD would extend their lead to 13-4, but Minnesota Crookston would four three makes from
Hunter Lorenson (So., G, Lake City, Calif.) and
Donez Lindsey (Fr., G, Stockton, Calif.) to make it 13-8.
UMD would once again extend their lead all the way to 24-12, but seven straight from the maroon and gold would get the Golden Eagles back within five.
Late in the half, UMD would once again extend their lead out to 12, but
J.D. Roberts (Jr., F, Parkville, Mo.) and
Brayden Carlson (So., C, Woodbury, Minn.) would each cash home a pair of threes to make it a four point game once again. The three for Carlson was the first of his young Golden Eagle career.
Carlson would bury a jumper in the paint in the waning seconds of the half, but UMD would finish a layup at the buzzer for the seven point lead through the first 20.
UMD would start to pull away and take a 57-43 lead early in the second half, but back-to-back long range makes from Lindsey and
Landon Dimler (So., F, Mankato, Minn.) would help Minnesota Crookston get back within eight.
For every comeback attempt the Golden Eagles would try and make, UMD would answer the bell time and time again in the 13-point win.
Minnesota Crookston saw five scorers in double figures, led by Washington and his career best 22 points and 9-10 at the charity stripe.
Kazadi Mukoma, Jr. (Jr., F, Grand Island, Neb.) added 13 points and four rebounds. Lindsey finished with 12 points and five assists. Dimler added a season-high 11 points on 3-4 shooting from three, while
Spencer Swenson (Fr., F, Sauk Rapids, Minn.) was one rebound shy of his first career double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Minnesota Crookston outrebounded UMD by five and outshot the Bulldogs by 18 from beyond the arc, but finished with 15 turnovers, which resulted in a whopping 24 Bulldog points.
