Late Second Half Run Propels Jimmies to NSIC Win over Golden Eagles

Crookston, Minn. -- The University of Jamestown took their first lead at 56-55 with 11:13 left in the game and never looked back, as they would use a big second half to defeat Minnesota Crookston in men's basketball action on Wednesday night, 78-71.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-10 overall.

The Golden Eagles would get off to a good start for the second straight time at home, as they would take an early 5-0 lead following buckets from Donez Lindsey (Fr., G, Stockton, Calif.) and Kazadi Mukoma, Jr. (Jr., F, Grand Island, Neb.).

Minnesota Crookston would go on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to nine at 17-8 after Spencer Swenson (Fr., F, Sauk Rapids, Minn.) would bury a left wing three.

Later in the first half, Lindsey and Alijah Washington (R-Jr., G, San Jose, Calif.) would bury back-to-back threes to extend their lead to six at 28-22.

With just over four minutes left, Swenson would bury another three to put the Golden Eagles up nine, but they would lead by just four at the half, 37-33.

Early on in the half, the Golden Eagles would have an answer for every Jimmies punch, as they would lead 47-43 following a J.D. Roberts (Jr., F, Parkville, Mo.) three ball.

The game would be back-and-forth and would be tied at 59 following a Swenson layup on the fast break.

The Golden Eagles would find themselves down by seven following a four minute stretch without a point, before Mukoma, Jr., would finish a layup in the paint.

The Jimmies would take a 75-63 lead with 2:25 to go, but the Golden Eagles would get within six with less than 40 seconds remaining, but were unable to climb all the way back, falling by eight.

The Golden Eagles had three in double-figures, led by Swenson and his 19 points, while Lindsey added 17 and Mukoma, Jr., finished with 14 points. Minnesota Crookston finished with 12 more points off of turnovers than the Jimmies.

Minnesota Crookston will close out the calendar year on Saturday for a 1:30 P.M. tip with old NSIC foe, Northern State.
