Crookston, Minn. - Golden Eagle hockey is wrapping up its fall semester home slate this weekend as they host Dakota College at Bottineau. The Golden Eagles turned to Tyler Swanson (So., G, Moorhead, Minn.) in net tonight, he has a 5-1-0 record this season, sporting a 1.50 goals against average, and a .937 save percentage. Carson Lockhart took the net for the Lumberjacks. He had a 2-3-0 record, a 4.51 goals against average, and a .914 save percentage. The Golden Eagles won the first game of the series 5-0.

The first period was low scoring, as it was Lockhart that stole the show. The Golden Eagles were leaps and bounds better in the offensive end than the Lumberjacks, but only found the back of the net once. Swanson had himself a great period as well, saving all seven shots he faced, Lockhart stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced. With 1:35 left in the period, Fox Dodds (5th, F, Watford City, N.D.) fired home a shot from the slot after a great pass from Ben Hines (Jr., F, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and Jackson Dodds (5th, F, Watford City, N.D.) had the assist that started the play. Each team was assessed two penalties in the opening 20, with the Lumberjacks getting one after the buzzer.

The second period was a much different story, the Golden Eagles still controlled the game offensively, but the hard work paid off this time. 2:39 into the second period, Fox Dodds was on the board again with assists from Jackson Dodds and Dylan Neubauer (5th, D, Grand Forks, N.D.) to put his team ahead 2-0. 11 minutes later, Anthony Foster (Jr., F, Warroad, Minn.) put home his 10th goal of the season on a perfect feed from Logan Syrup (5th, F, Park River, N.D.), Tyler Lorenz picked up the secondary assist. Less than three minutes later, Braden Van de Kraats (So., D, Medicine Hat, Alberta) generated a perfect play, pulling the goalie completely out of the net, and Alexander Bailey (5th, D, Crosby, N.D.) finished the play by sliding the puck into the back of the net. Two minutes later, Bailey was back on the scoresheet with another open night following the assist from Mason Romfo (So., F, Langdon, Minn.) with Anthony Foster picking up an assist as well. The Golden Eagles took a 5-0 period to the locker room.

The third period was not as eventful in the goal department, but it was a very physical period. Four penalties were called on each team in the final period. The goalies each had a stellar night in net, with Tyler Swanson posting a 30 save shutout, while Carson Lockhart made 59 saves on 64 shots against. This is Swanson's second shutout of the season and his fourth shutout in his career.

The Golden Eagles and Lumberjacks are back at it tomorrow, with puck drop set for noon.
