Moorhead, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston would open up the conference season at MSU Moorhead. The Dragons would win 95-69.
MSUM would use a scorching first half, where they would bury seven first half threes to help them pull away for the NSIC opening victory.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-3 (0-1 NSIC) on the season.
MSU Moorhead would score the first five points of the game, but
Hunter Lorenson (So., G, Lake City, Minn.) would finish a layup from the left side of the rim.
MSU Moorhead would take a 9-2 lead before
Donez Lindsey (Fr., G, Stockton, Calif.) would bury a left wing three. In fact, it would be the first of two threes in the first five minutes for the freshman.
The Dragons would extend their lead to 12 before a
Quincy Everson (Fr., G, Goodyear, Ariz.) midrange jumper.
The Dragons seemingly couldn't miss through the first 13 minutes of the half pulling out to a 29-15 lead.
The Golden Eagles would start to get in a groove offensively as
Alijah Washington (R-Jr., G, San Jose, Calif.) would score seven points in a two-minute stretch to cut the lead to just nine.
The Golden Eagles would see the Dragons extend their lead to 41-22, but the Golden Eagles would get back within 12 following a five point outburst from Lindsey during the 7-0 run.
MSU Moorhead would finish the half on a 5-0 run in the final minute to take a 17 point lead into the halftime break.
Lindsey would lead the Golden Eagles at the half with 13 points on 5-10 from the field.
It would be a tough start for the half for the Golden Eagles, who would see their deficit extend to 24 through the first three minutes of the half.
Brayden Carlson (So., C, Woodbury, Minn.) would help the Golden Eagles get back within 19 with a layup.
Caiden Swenby (So., G, Fertile, Minn.) would bury a left corner three to make it a 65-47 game midway through the final half.
Later in the half, Lindsey would bury a pair of technical free throws and bury another three, his third of the game.
Minnesota Crookston would try and chip away, but the Dragons would have an answer for every push the Golden Eagles would have.
Lindsey had his best career game, finishing with 25 points, five rebounds and three assists. He also buried a career-high four shots from deep. Washington also had his best game as a Golden Eagle, finishing with 16 points and a season-high three makes from deep. Lorenson added nine, while Carlson contributed six points off the bench.
Minnesota Crookston will now head to Fayette, Iowa for a non-conference game with Upper Iowa on Friday afternoon at 1 PM.
