BROOKINGS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team competed in a pair of meets Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4 at DeHaan Equestrian Center in Brookings, S.D. The Golden Eagles fell 16-4 to South Dakota State University, and had a great showing against #10 University of Tennessee Martin, dropping just 10-6.
Minnesota Crookston is 0-4 after four meets in the NCEA. The Golden Eagles are in their first season competing exclusively in the NCEA. South Dakota State is 2-0, while UT Martin is 1-1.
Against South Dakota State, Minnesota Crookston was paced by Kristen Borchert who won 80-79 over Heidi White on Mambo in Fences. The mark was Borchert's top performance in fences. Maggie Lawler (Fr., Algonquin, Ill.) also scored 80, but fell 82-80 in her match. She had her top score of her young career.
Belle Syrett (Jr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) picked up a 71-62 win on the Flat on Annie.
Minnesota Crookston had their best performance in Horsemanship. Emma Mutnansky (So., Cass Lake, Minn.) picked up her second MOP of the season with a 76.5-76 victory over former teammate Hailey Hanson on Knight. McKenna Hooyer (Jr., Rock Rapids, Minn.) earned a 68-67.5 victory over her former teammates on Marley.
Brianna Thoeny (Fr., Ogilvie, Minn.), Brooke Hoven (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa), and Allison Patron (Fr., Bend, Ore.) all recorded 68's in narrow losses in Reining.
In Fences against the Skyhawks, Julianne Lurie (Fr., Seminole, Fla.) recorded the top score with a 76 on Mack in a loss.
Minnesota Crookston obtained three points in Equitation on the Flat. Lawler had a great performance with a 77 to pick up her point on Elton. Borchert defeated Gracie Roberts on Leo. Ryann Mitchell (Fr., Camano Island, Wash.) picked up a 72-67 victory on Annie.
In Horsemanship, the Golden Eagles obtained a 72.5-72 victory from Hooyer on Colby. Mutnansky notched a 75-74.5 win over Ava Newsom on Louie.
In Reining, Siara Mosby (So., Bremerton, Wash.) tacked on a win 65-64 on Veeta.
