MINOT, N.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 2-0 to Minot State University Friday, October 31 at Herb Parker Stadium in Minot, N.D. The Beavers scored a goal in the 22nd minute, and pushed the score to 2-0 with a goal in the 82nd minute.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 1-13-2 (0-12-1 NSIC) with the loss. Minot State improved to 7-5-4 (7-2-4 NSIC) with the victory. The meeting was the first on the pitch for former coworkers Chris Logan and Danny Burstein. Burstein worked under Chris Logan at the University of North Dakota for three seasons as an assistant coach. Minot State has won six-straight games in the series.
Minnesota Crookston has kept games close of late. In the last 10 games, the Golden Eagles have six one-score losses, a tie, and three two-goal losses. The Golden Eagles have two goals remaining and have given up 16 less goals than the 2024 season.
The U of M Crookston had one shot on goal, while Minot State notched 19 goals, with nine on frame. Minot State had five corner kicks, while Minnesota Crookston notched two.
Minnesota Crookston's lone shot on goal came from Andrea Cuenca Medina (So., MF, South St. Paul, Minn. The Beavers were propelled by goals from Sabrina Amezcua, and Sierra Haren. Iliana Rivera, Amezcua, and Haren each tallied two shots on goal.
In goal, Payton King (Fr., GK, Fairfield, Calif.) made her first start since October 5, and her ninth of the season. King allowed two goals, and notched seven saves. Rebecca Sargent tallied a clean sheet, and notched one save.
In the 22nd minute, Amezcua scored her eighth goal of the season to put the Beavers ahead 1-0. Minot State sealed their victory with a second tally in the 82nd minute. Haren notched her second goal of the season, with an assist from Elsa Duquesne.
Minnesota Crookston has their final road game of the season as they take on the University of Mary Sunday, November 2 in Bismarck, N.D., at 1 p.m.
