ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team fell 81-69 to No. 21 Concordia University-St. Paul Friday, November 17 in St. Paul. The Golden Bears outscored the Golden Eagles 24-13 to pick up the win after Minnesota Crookston trailed by just 57-56 after the first three quarters.
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 6-11 (4-7 NSIC) after Friday's loss to nationally-ranked Golden Bears. Concordia-St. Paul improved to 15-2 (9-2 NSIC) after the win.
The Golden Eagles were guided by 27 points from Emma Miller (Jr., G, Albertville, Minn.) on 10-of-20 from the field, and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Miller sits at 1,370 career points, and needs 90 points to surpass Alexa Thielman for fifth all-time. Riley Jenkins (R-So., G/F, Galesburg, Ill.) notched 16 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots. Nicole Hernandez (R-Sr., F/C, Oak Creek, Wis.) had nine points, seven boards, and three blocked shots. Hernandez is in the top five nationally for blocked shots, and needs 23 blocked shots to set the school record previously set by Isieoma Odor.
Minnesota Crookston shot 25-of-58 for 43.1 percent from the field. The Golden Eagles were 11-of-23 for 47.8 percent from beyond the arc, and a perfect 8-of-8 from the line. Minnesota Crookston finished with 18 turnovers. They were narrowly outrebounded 37-34, allowing 12 offensive boards to the Golden Bears.
Concordia-St. Paul shot 29-of-68 for 42.6 percent from the field. They went 9-of-19 for 47.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 14-of-17 for 82.4 percent from the charity stripe. The Golden Bears had 20 assists, and just eight turnovers.
Concordia-St. Paul was lifted by Lydia Haack with 18 points on 6-of-13 from the field. Leah Dengerud notched 17 points, on 3-of-6 from distance. Lindsey Becher tallied 12 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks.
The Golden Eagles took a 10-6 lead in the first quarter after a Halle Winjum (Fr., G, Crookston, Minn.). The two squads went into the quarter break knotted 19-19.
The Golden Bears pushed out to a 27-19 lead after a Mikayla Kanenwisher trey. Minnesota Crookston countered with a 10-2 run, as a Hope Dudycha (R-So., G, Austin, Minn.) triple tied the game 29-29. The pair of schools went into the locker room knotted 38-38.
The Golden Eagles took a 47-40 lead out of the gate in the third stanza after a Jenkins trey. Concordia-St. Paul countered with a 7-0 run, as a pair of Dengerud free throws tied the game 47-47.Minnesota Crookston trailed the Golden Bears by just 57-56 after a Jenkins triple.
The Golden Eagles took a 60-59 advantage after a Hernandez basket with 8:46 remaining in the fourth quarter. Concordia-St. Paul countered with an 11-0 run to go ahead 70-60 after a pair of Becher free throws. The Golden Bears picked up the 81-69 win after a big fourth stanza.
Minnesota Crookston heads to Minnesota Duluth to face the Bulldogs Saturday January 18 at 5:30 p.m.
