7/26/2024 1:20:00 PM

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball program and Head Coach Bryan Beamish announced the hiring of Kyle Hunt as assistant coach. Hunt joins Tim Lubke as the two assistants on Beamish' staff heading into 2024-25.

Beamish heads into his third season at the helm of the Golden Eagles, and his 11th with the program. Lubke, a former Golden Eagle men's basketball player, is in his fourth season as an assistant coach.

Hunt, a Ypsilanti, Mich., native spent this past season as an assistant coach of Division II Chadron State. In his season at Chadron State, he helped Josh Robinson to a CSC Academic All-American nod in the classroom. Robinson and Martin Poznanovic were selected CSC Academic All-District. On the court, he coached Robinson and Bryce Lattimer to All-RMAC Second Team accolades.

Prior to collegiate coaching, Hunt spent his time at the high school ranks. In 2015, Hunt started his own non-profit basketball organization, One Ball Basketball.

In 2017, he was named varsity assistant coach and the head of player development at Weston Ranch High School in Stockton, Calif. During his three-year tenure with the Cougars, he helped lead them to new heights, where they finished league champions, Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championships and qualified for 'open division', finishing the season 30-2.

Hunt moved on to accept the associate head coach position at Lincoln High School, also in Stockton. His squad finished 59-11 during his tenure and would make the playoffs each season. Lincoln also made history by reaching the second round of the CIF-State Playoffs.

He then made his way to collegiate basketball, where he was named the top assistant at College of San Mateo for the 2022-23 season. There, he led the Bulldogs to 14-16 season and coached an all-conference first teamer and a pair of all-conference performers.

Hunt received his bachelor's degree in communications from California State University, Stanislaus in 2014 and is currently receiving his master's degree in trauma in educational communities from Eastern Oregon University.

Beamish is thrilled to add the experience and knowledge of Hunt to his coaching staff.

"I am very excited to add Kyle to our basketball family," Beamish stated. "He has experience at multiple levels which includes Division II. He will help expand our recruiting with connections he has built over the past few years. Kyle will impact our program in multiple ways immediately. I cannot wait to get him on campus and get to work with our players as we continue to build our program."

The Golden Eagles will open up the season against Oklahoma Baptist on Nov. 8 in Duluth.
