Golden Eagle Softball Fights Hard, but Fall to Division I North Dakota on Wednesday

Grand Forks, N.D. – In their first ever game against a Division I program, Golden Eagle softball gave the University of North Dakota a scare, but the Fighting Hawks would shutout the Golden Eagles for a 3-0 win on Wednesday afternoon, at Apollo Field in Grand Forks.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 14-35 on the season and is set for a massive weekend at home on Thursday and Sunday.

The theme of the day for UND would be some two out magic. That magic would start in the first inning, as Cassie Castaneda would drive in a run for a 1-0 lead.

UND would add on in the second with another two out base-knock, this time off the bat of Angie Dumlao for a 2-0 advantage.

In the top of the fourth, Shaelyn Grant (Sr., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.) would get things started with a one out single. Haley Koch (Sr., C, Mondamin, Iowa) would follow that up with a single through the left side, putting runners on first and second. Reagan Emerick (R-Jr., MIF, Macomb, Ill.) would hit the ball hard, but would reach on a fielder's choice. The Golden Eagles would go scoreless in the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth and fifth, the Fighting Hawks would load the bases with nobody out, but Alexa Guilford (So., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) and Gracelynn Kelly (So., P, Black Hawk, S.D.) would get out of the jams with just one run given up.

Needing to try and mount a comeback, the Golden Eagles would get two runners on again, as Curry and Koch would both reach. Emerick would once again hit the ball hard, but it would turn into a line drive double play, ending the inning.

The Golden Eagles would go scoreless in the seventh also, falling by three runs.

The Golden Eagles had three hits in the game, led by a 2-3 day from Koch. Minnesota Crookston left five runners on base, compared to 12 by UND.

Including Guilford and Kelly, the Golden Eagles saw four pitchers in the game. Charlotte Dombrowski (So., P/OF, Valparaiso, Ind.) started and Evie Stuck (Jr., P, Papillion, Neb.) finished off the game with an inning.

What's Next
The Golden Eagles will be back at home this weekend for a massive weekend against MSU Moorhead tomorrow afternoon and Northern State on Sunday. First pitch against the Dragons is set for 2 P.M.
