BRADENTON, Fla. - The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team picked up their second-consecutive win with a dominant 13-0 victory over the New College of Florida Wednesday, March 13 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
The Golden Eagles improved to 8-8 (3-5 NSIC) with Wednesday's win over the Mighty Banyans. New College of Florida dropped to 9-11 with the loss.
Jake Osowski (R-Sr., RHP, East Grand Forks, Minn.) led the pitching staff to a shutout victory Wednesday, improving to 3-0 with the win. Osowski went six innings, allowing just four hits. He struck out seven, and walked one. Max Weber (Jr., RHP, St. Paul, Minn.) pitched a scoreless inning, allowing just one hit. Aaron Bennett (R-Fr., RHP, Saginaw, Minn.) made his collegiate debut, pitching a scoreless eighth inning and allowing just one hit.
The loss for the New College of Florida went to Anthony Griffith, who allowed four runs on four hits in 1.2 innings. Matthew MacGregor allowed no earned runs in 5.1 innings of relief.
The Golden Eagles got 14 different players into the batting and defensive lineup Wednesday. Sawyer Satrom (R-So., IF, Portland, N.D.) went 2-of-3, with an RBI and two runs scored. Teddy Giefer (Sr., 1B, Courtland, Minn.), who has been one of the top hitters in the NSIC this season, continued the trend hitting 2-of-4, with an RBI. Kobe Senn (R-So., IF, Fargo, N.D.) went 2-of-3, with three runs scored. Connor Bushbaum (R-So., OF, Saginaw, Minn.) made his first collegiate start, going 1-of-2, with two RBIs, and a run scored. Angelo Pacyga (R-So., OF, Sunfish Lake, Minn.) was 1-of-2, with an RBI, and a run scored.
The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first with a Giefer double, plating Satrom.
Minnesota Crookston widened the gap to 3-0 early in the second inning when Bushbaum laced a double to left field, scoring Senn, and Kodi Miller (Jr., C, Grand Rapids, Minn.). They pushed the advantage to 4-0 later in the inning with a Satrom single, scoring Bushbaum. Minnesota Crookston extended their lead to 5-0 when Satrom scored on a passed ball.
In the third inning, the Golden Eagles pushed their advantage to 6-0 when Jake Hjelle (R-Sr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) scored on a wild pitch. A Mitch Goodwin (R-Sr., SS, Prior Lake, Minn.) sacrifice fly scored Miller to make it 7-0. To cap off the scoring in the third, Senn scored on a Bushbaum groundout.
Minnesota Crookston ended a four-inning scoreless streak in the eighth when Pacyga hit a single to center field, scoring Senn. Goodwin crossed the plate on an Americo Sculati (R-So., OF, Golden Valley, Minn.) fielder's choice to widen the gap to 10-0. Hjelle walked with the bases loaded, plating Pacyga to move the lead to 11-0. A Miller walk with the bases loaded scored Sculati to push the advantage to 12-0. Minnesota Crookston capped off the frame as Cole Hebl (Fr., 1B, Hillsboro, N.D.) scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 13-0.
The Mighty Banyans were unable to make up the deficit, as the Golden Eagles picked up the 13-0 run-rule victory. The Golden Eagles continue play at the 2024 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Thursday, March 14 at 8:15 a.m. C.T., against Purdue University Northwest at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
