Springfield, Mo. – Golden Eagle softball was looking to halt a losing streak on Friday morning with a pair of games against nationally ranked Central Oklahoma and host school Drury University.
Game one against the Bronchos went the way of UCO, as the Bronchos defeated the Golden Eagles 8-0, in five innings.
In game two, the host school Drury Panthers would score two runs each in the first and second innings to pull away from the Golden Eagles for an 8-3 win.
The Golden Eagles fall to 2-9 on the season.
Game One
The Bronchos would strike for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, taking a 2-0 lead.
The second inning is when the Bronchos would break the game open. UCO would score five runs in the bottom of the second, using a triple and a double to scrape across the runs.
The Bronchos would go scoreless in the third, but score a run in the fourth inning to put into effect the run rule, meaning the Golden Eagles would need at least a run to continue the game.
In the top of the fifth, the Golden Eagles would go down in order, falling 8-0.
The Golden Eagles finished with one hit in the game, which was off the bat of
Paige Shwaluk (Sr., MIF, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba), who went 1-2 in the game.
Gracelynn Kelly (So., P, Black Hawk, S.D.) earned the start and gave up seven runs, just three of which were earned, in 1.2 innings of work. Kelly falls to 0-1 on the season.
Kailee Pollard (Jr., P, Marshalltown, Iowa) came in for relief of Kelly and gave up three hits and a run in 2.1 innings of work.
Game Two
The Golden Eagles were looking for a split as they took on host school, Drury University.
The Golden Eagles would go down in order in the first inning and the Panthers would score a pair of runs, using an error by the Golden Eagles to take a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, the host school would double up on the Golden Eagles and take a 4-0 lead, using small ball for the 4-0 advantage.
Drury would score another run in the third, but in the fourth, the maroon and gold would chip away at the lead.
Whitnee Curry (Jr., MIF/OF, Lincoln, Neb) would lead off the inning with a single.
Emilee Haggadone (So., C, Lincoln, Neb.) would also single and
Evie Stuck (Jr., P, Papillion, Neb.) would reach base with a walk. With the bases loaded,
Emerson Thompson (R-So., C, Lincoln, Neb.) would clear the bases with a double to left field, scoring a trio of runs. The Golden Eagles would reload the bases, but wouldn't be able to score another run, heading to the bottom of the inning trailing by a pair.
That would be the closest the Golden Eagles would get, as Drury would score insurance runs in the later innings for an 8-3 win over the Golden Eagles to get to .500 on the season.
The Golden Eagles finished with five hits in the game, led by a 2-3 game from Haggadone.
Paige Shwaluk, Curry and Thompson each had a hit in the game. The Golden Eagles left seven runners on base.
Stuck also earned the start in the circle and went five innings, giving up nine hits and six runs, five of which were earned.
Alexa Guilford (So., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) came in for relief of Stuff and gave up two runs on two runs in an inning of work.
