Box Score Winona, Minn. – In the regular season finale at Winona State, Minnesota Crookston got off to a quick 14 point lead, but the Warriors would use a great defensive effort in the second half to knock off Minnesota Crookston, 63-40.
The Golden Eagles wrap-up the regular season at 6-22 (3-19 NSIC).
The fast start by the Golden Eagles would be kicked off by a three from
Ben Hoverson (Jr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.).
Winona State would answer with a bucket, but
Blaize Sagna (Jr., G, London, England) would finish with a jumper in the paint.
That bucket would launch the start of a 13-0 run, a stretch where Hoverson would bury another three and
Reid Grant (Jr., G, Johnston, Iowa) would knock home a pair from long range.
A pair of
Aguek Deng (R-Jr., F, Des Moines, Iowa) free throws would give the Golden Eagles their largest lead of the night at 18-4.
The Warriors would come storming back and cut the lead to 20-18, but
Jordan Mitchell (R-Jr., F, Columbus, Ohio) would bank home a layup for a four point lead.
WSU would end the half strong and take a four point lead heading into the halftime break.
After the halftime break, it would be all Warriors, who would outscore the Golden Eagles by 19, resulting in the 63-40 win.
Sagna and Hoverson each led the Golden Eagles with 11 points, while Grant poured in eight points.
With six rebounds in the game tonight against the Warriors, Deng surpassed Justin Henry on the single-season rebounding list, finishing with 209 on the season, Henry set the previous record in the 2004-05 season.
