Crookston, Minn. – Augustana outscored Minnesota Crookston by 20 points in the second half, breaking a tie at half leading to a 93-73 win over the Golden Eagles on Friday night.
The Golden Eagles fall to 6-19 overall and 3-16 in the Northern Sun.
The Vikings would score the first seven points of the night, taking an early 7-0 lead, but
Reid Grant (Jr., G, Johnston, Iowa) would finish a layup in the point to get the Golden Eagles on the board.
Ben Hoverson (Jr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) and
Blaize Sagna (Jr., G, London, England) would tie things up at seven with a three and a two, respectively.
The Golden Eagles would eventually take a 14-10 lead on a Sagna three.
The Golden Eagles would continue to lead throughout the first half, taking a six point lead at 27-21 on Hoverson's second three of the half.
With less than seven minutes left in the first half, Grant would bury a three to take a lead of nine, their largest lead of the night.
The Vikings would come back and take a 37-36 lead, but
Mario Adams (Fr., F, Rosemount, Minn.) would contort his body for a wild reverse layup, giving the Golden Eagles back a one point lead.
Peter Fuchs, Jr. (R-Fr., G, Wausau, Minn.) would bury a three and
De'Antray Hughes (R-Sr., F, New Orleans, La.) would finish a layup helping the Golden Eagles tie the game up at 45 heading into the final 20 minutes.
Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, the Vikings would score the first four points of the second half, but
Aguek Deng (R-Jr., F, Des Moines, Iowa) would finish a fade away in the paint to cut the deficit back down to just two.
Augustana would take a 54-47 lead, but Grant would finish the old-fashioned three point play to make it a 54-50 game early in the half.
Back-to-back three's from the Vikings would stretch the lead to 11 at 62-51, but a 7-0 run from the Golden Eagles, highlighted by another Hoverson three and a Grant layup would make it a 62-58 game.
From that point on, it would be all Vikings, who would close the game on a 31-15 run and win the game by 22.
The Golden Eagles finished with three guys in double figures, led by Sagna's 18 points and seven rebounds. Sagna also finished with a season-high four steals. Grant scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Hoverson contributed 11 points on 3-7 from deep. Fuchs, Jr., poured in nine points off the bench, while Hughes scored eight points and pulled down seven boards.
Minnesota Crookston outrebounded the Vikings by four, but Augustana scored 21 points off of 13 Golden Eagle turnovers.

Minnesota Crookston will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for senior day as they host Wayne State College at 5:30 P.M.
