Minnesota Crookston Struggles from the Field in Loss to Eckerd College

St. Petersburg, Fla. – In the first ever meeting between the two teams, Eckerd College used a late first half run to upend Minnesota Crookston, 64-56, in non-conference play on Friday night.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-5 on the year.

Minnesota Crookston would move out to a quick 3-0 lead, following a Micah Garrett (Jr., G, Portland, Ore.) layup and 1-2 at the free throw line from Jordan Mitchell (R-Sr., F, Columbus, Ohio).

Midway through the first half, Christian Bowen-Webb (Jr., G, Atchison, Kan.) would bury the first of his two threes to give the Golden Eagles a 15-12 lead.

Reid Grant (Sr., G, Johnston, Iowa) would score nine straight points and give the Golden Eagles a 24-16 lead with 8:33 left in the first half.

The Tritons would close the first half on a 14-6 run to take a 38-30 lead, heading into the halftime break.

Both teams would struggle to score early on in the second half. Garrett would score the first points of the half with a three, four and a half minutes into the half, cutting the deficit to 40-33.

Grant would cut the lead to six at 45-39, but would miss the three-point play opportunity, keeping the deficit at six.

Minnesota Crookston wouldn't get as close as six the rest of the way, as the Tritons were able to do just enough for the eight point win.

Grant led the way with 16 points on 7-13 shooting from the field. Garrett shot 6-12 from the field, finishing with 14 points. Bowen-Webb added six points, while Andrew Stokes (Jr., F, Westchester, Ill.) added five points and pulled down six boards.

The Golden Eagles shot just 34.9 percent from the field and were 6-15 from the charity stripe.

What's Next
Minnesota Crookston will look to salvage their trip to Florida, as they head to Tampa to take on the University of Tampa. Tip-off is set for 5:30 P.M. (CT).
