Minnesota Crookston Falls 4-3 in Overtime to Wisconsin-Eau Claire

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston hockey team fell 4-3 in an overtime loss after tying the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-3 in regulation Saturday, January 20 in Altoona, Wis.

Minnesota Crookston dropped to 18-3-1 (12-3-1 WCCHA). They remain at the top of the table in the WCCHA Northwest Division. Wisconsin-Eau Claire is fourth in the Southeast Division of the WCCHA. They split with the Blugolds after a win Friday. 

The Golden Eagles were led by Logan Syrup (Jr., F, Park River, N.D.) with two goals. Anthony Foster (Fr., F, Warroad, Minn.) chipped in two assists, while Fox Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) notched a goal and an assist. Tyler Zahradka (Sr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) and Griffen Sonstegard (So., D, Baudette, Minn.) each chipped in assists. Foster leads the team with 40 points this season, while Syrup has 38 points and is second on the team in scoring.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Colton Flammini scored off helpers from Adis Ultanbekov, and Jack Bowe with 4:09 left in the stanza. With 2:24 left in the period Cade Marschall scored off assists from Isaac Lindstrom, and Bryce Flemming. 

The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard early in the second period when Syrup scored off assists from Foster, and Dodds. The Blugolds extended their lead to 3-1 when Anthony Koslowski scored. Minnesota Crookston pulled within 3-2 late in the second when Syrup scored for a second time, this time off a Zahradka apple. 

The Golden Eagles forced overtime with a Dodds goal with 6:34 remaining off assists from Sonstegard, and Foster.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire picked up the 4-3 overtime win when Marschall scored, off assists from Case Moioffer, and Lindstrom.

The Golden Eagles return home for their final home series of the season Friday, January 26 against Dakota College-Bottineau.
