CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team continues their 2023 season with a road tilt and a neutral site game this week. The Golden Eagles will head to face Concordia University, St. Paul in a non-conference game Friday, September 8 at 7 p.m. UMN Crookston will return North to take on former NSIC foe Upper Iowa University in a neutral site tilt at Chet Anderson Stadium in Bemidji, Minn., Sunday, September 10 at 12 p.m.

Minnesota Crookston comes into the game with an 0-2 mark. Concordia-St. Paul has a 1-1 record, while Upper Iowa is 0-2.

The Golden Eagles are 0-2 entering the week, but had a tail of two games. They struggled in a 6-0 loss to Wayne State College, but bounced back with a strong effort at home Sunday in a 2-1 loss versus Minot State University. The Golden Eagles had great effort throughout and tied the Beavers 1-1 in the second half, before allowing the decisive goal. 

Minnesota Crookston is led by Brooklyn Fischbach (Jr., F, South St. Paul, Minn.), who leads the team with a goal. Autumn Rabe (Fr., F, Kewaskum, Wis.), and Marsia Green (Fr., MF/F, Waconia, Minn.) have assists for the Golden Eagles.

In goal, Abby Olsen (Sr., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) leads the way with a 3.33 goals against average in two games. Olsen had a strong effort against Minot State, notching nine saves in 90 minutes against the Beavers. 

Minnesota Crookston is averaging 5.5 shots per game, while opponents have 21.0 shots per tilt. They will look to increase their attempts, while limiting opponents this week. The Golden Eagles will also look to seek more corner kicks, as they have two this season compared to 14 for their foes.

Concordia-St. Paul

The Golden Bears are 1-1 after earning a 2-0 win over Upper Iowa, and falling 3-0 to McKendree University. Concordia St. Paul went 7-7-5 in 2022. Katie Anderson and Sydney Manthana have the goals for the Golden Bears this season. They have picked up assists from Sophie Pawlyshyn and Clare Snapko.

Concordia St. Paul has nine shots per game, while their opponents are notching 10 per tilt. They have seven corner kicks, to nine for their foes.

In goal, the Golden Bears are led by Jessi Jordan, who has a 1.50 goals against average, with eight saves and a .727 saves percentage.

Concordia St. Paul has won the last five match-ups. The last result for Minnesota Crookston came with a 0-0 tie in 2016 in Crookston. Minnesota Crookston's last win in the series was September 25, 2015 with a 2-0 victory in Crookston.

Upper Iowa

The Peacocks, who left the NSIC for the GLVC this season, are 0-2. They fell 2-0 to Concordia-St. Paul, and 2-0 to Winona State. The Peacocks have yet to find the back of the net this season. They went 2-12-4 in 2022. 

Upper Iowa is led by Rachyl Benavides and Katrina Kazluski, who each have three shots this season. Darci Faichnie comes in with two shots, both on goal. 

In between the pipes, Isabelle Wagner has a 2.00 goals against average, and a .778 saves percentage. Wagner has 14 saves for the Peacocks.

Minnesota Crookston beat Upper Iowa 2-1 in 2022. The Peacocks had won back-to-back games in 2019 and 2021.
