Minnesota Crookston Soccer Falls to Wayne State in Season Opener

WAYNE, Neb. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team fell 6-0 to Wayne State College (Neb.) in their regular-season opener Thursday, August 31 at WSC Soccer Field. The Golden Eagles ceded three goals in the first half, and the Wildcats didn't look back in the 6-0 victory.

Minnesota Crookston opened the season with an 0-1 mark, while Wayne State improved to 1-0.

The Wildcats were guided by a hat trick from Skylar Stueckrath. Maia Vacks chipped in with two goals. Joee Frogue added a second-half tally. Annika Syvrud notched two assists, while Riann Daas, and Kaelyn Reeves also added helpers. Tyler Donaldson also chipped in an assist. 

Wayne State had 21 shots, with 11 on frame. Minnesota Crookston finished with five shots, with three on goal. The Wildcats notched six corners, compared to two for UMN Crookston.

Minnesota Crookston was led by shots from Brooklyn Fischbach (Jr., F, South St. Paul, Minn.), Madison Lein (Fr., D, Bismarck, N.D.), Kedin Geremiah (Fr., F, Winnipeg, Manitoba), Sarah Burgum (So., F, Mandan, N.D.), and Marsia Green (Fr., MF/F, Waconia, Minn.).

Emma Stempien (Jr., GK, Plymouth, Mich.) started the game and played the first 45 minutes. She allowed three goals and tallied three saves. Abby Olsen (Sr., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) played the final 45, allowing three goals with two saves.

Hayden Wallace got the win in goal, putting up a clean sheet for 66 minutes, with three saves. Sidney Truman played the final 24 minutes, allowing no goals.

Minnesota Crookston returns to Crookston for their home opener Sunday, September 3 at 11 a.m., against Minot State University.
