CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team opened the 2023 season with a 2-0 exhibition win over the University of Jamestown Friday, August 18 at the UMN Crookston Soccer Field. The game marked the first on the sideline for Head Coach Neil Mancktelow, who was an assistant coach on the Golden Eagle side in 2022.

Minnesota Crookston is 1-0 in exhibition games. Jamestown went 14-6-2 during the 2022 season. The Golden Eagles peppered the goal in Friday's exhibition tilt with 20 shots, 10 on goal. Minnesota Crookston's most shots on goal was 17 against Waldorf last season. The Golden Eagles showed improvement against the Jimmies, as they fell 2-1 in exhibition play to Jamestown in 2022.

Minnesota Crookston had a great first half, as they scored their two goals. The Golden Eagles were led by tallies from Sarah Burgum (So., F, Mandan, N.D.), and Brooklyn Fischbach (Jr., F, South St. Paul, Minn.). Tessa VanOverbeke (Fr., D, Hartford, S.D.), and Ellerie Tarbox (Jr., MF/F, Carter Lake, Iowa) added assists for the Golden Eagles.

Kedin Geremiah (Fr., F, Winnipeg, Manitoba) paced Minnesota Crookston with four shots. Fischbach and Marsia Green (Fr., MF/F, Waconia, Minn.) added three shots, while Burgum, Ashley Chomyn (R-Sr., F, Winnipeg, Manitoba), and Jacqueline Calderon (R-Jr., MF, Indio, Calif.) all had two shots.

Abby Olsen (Sr., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) got the start and the win in a combined shutout. Olsen had a clean sheet in 45 minutes, with no saves. Emma Stempien (Jr., GK, Plymouth, Mich.) had a clean sheet in 45 minutes, with one save.

Jamestown had three shots. Elise Gillis had two, while Hannah Hynek had one.

Minnesota Crookston continues their exhibition slate Friday, August 25 against the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
